Production System

Thoughts on Manufacturing Production System

Since its establishment, we at Azbil Kimmon have been making daily improvements with the phrase "improvement activities never end" in mind, aiming to realize a higher level of production system and at the same time to make our "Dream Factory" a rewarding place to work where each and every employee involved in manufacturing can take pride in his or her work. As a manufacturer, we remain committed to manufacturing and produce daily to deliver products that support the lifelines of gas and water throughout Japan.

Introduction of Production System

Azbil Kimmon Aomori Co., Ltd. and Azbil Kimmon Haramachi Co., Ltd. are our domestic production bases, casting and processing water meter cases and manufacturing meters mainly for water utilities. Azbil Kimmon Energy Products Co., Ltd. has three production bases in Wakayama and Fukushima prefectures, and produces gas meters, regulators, and other products mainly for gas utilities.
Azbil Kimmon Taiwan Corporation, our overseas production base, manufactures city gas meters for the domestic market in Taiwan.

At each of our bases, we adhere to a production system that complies with the Measurement Law, Gas Business Law, liquefied petroleum gas, and other laws and regulations required for specified measuring instruments in our production lines, including parts procurement, assembly, inspection, and shipping. We are working to maintain quality that complies with stricter standards and optimize our production system by bringing together the manufacturing capabilities of the Azbil Kimmon Group.
For example, in order to optimize Q (quality), C (cost), and D (delivery time), we have been implementing KPS (Kimmon Production System) improvement activities since 2004. These KPS improvement activities involve creative and ingenious approaches such as improving daily production processes at each plant, designing processes with safety in mind, and creating new ways of working. Recently, we have been promoting our DX by practicing digitalization, which is the use of cloud services in conjunction with the evolution of information technology to improve the efficiency of operations at manufacturing sites, such as the elimination of human resources, consolidation of operations, reduction of transcription and verbal communication, reduction of on-site actual product checks, and effective use of experts.

Furthermore, we are promoting energy-saving projects within the azbil Group, such as visualization of energy consumption at all domestic bases, and are working to reduce CO₂ emissions at all plants by introducing energy-saving equipment and converting to renewable energy. In order to deliver gas meters and water meters*1 with low greenhouse gas emissions in the manufacturing process, we will continue to actively promote environmental management through collaboration with our suppliers and contribute to customers' greenhouse gas reduction.

*1 Compared to our conventional gas and water meters, which emit less greenhouse gas emissions, the electricity used at factories involved in meter manufacturing will be CO2 emission-free starting in FY2020, and the greenhouse gas emissions before and after the electricity procurement method change.
